In this season, as we feel the arrival of the Lunar New Year, the streets of Taiwan turn red, and preparations for the Lunar New Year are underway everywhere. 🧧✨ Today, we will introduce the history of Dihua Street and the most famous New Year festival in Taipei, the 'Lunar New Year Market.'
1.History and Features of Dihua Street
The history of Dihua Street dates back to the Qing Dynasty in China. During the Qing Dynasty, Dihua was one of the most prosperous commercial areas in Taiwan, thriving as a significant port town. Located in the northern part of Taipei, it was strategically positioned near the mouth of the Tamsui River, making it suitable for water transport and trade. It was during this era that the iconic red-brick buildings of Dihua Street were constructed.
Later, during the Japanese colonial era, traditional Taiwanese shops and craftsmen's workshops lined the street, incorporating Japan's unique brick designs into the current appearance of Dihua Street. Interestingly, many of Taiwan's historical buildings were constructed during the Japanese colonial period, including the Presidential Office Building in Taipei.
Thus, Dihua Street has prospered as a trade hub since ancient times, maintaining the charm of an old street while witnessing the rise of businesses through generations. Recently, trendy cafes, workshops for creating accessories, and other new shops have opened one after another. Of course, there are also many shops specializing in dried goods and fabrics, making it a city where the old and new coexist harmoniously. 💡
2.Dihua Street's Lunar New Year Market
